Halton Regional Police Services Board members recently approved a police recommendation to spend $1.8 million for a six-year System Upgrade Agreement with Motorola Solutions Canada Inc., which supplied the Motorola P25 voice radio system. The system became functional earlier this year. In the police report, the $1.8 million will pay for three system upgrades over the course of the six-year contract, thus keeping the system up-to-date during that period. The three major upgrades will occur on a biannual basis. They will consist of the following: · Minor software upgrades, known as patch releases. This may include commercial operating software and application software patches and service pack updates. · Major software upgrades, known as system release upgrades. This will be done when such upgrades are available and will not exceed one major software upgrade on a two-year period. · The following hardware components are eligible for full product replacement when necessary to make the eligible system release upgrades: servers, PC workstations, routers, LAN switches, base stations and consoles. When questioned by board members about the need for this service upgrade agreement, police staff said this is the most economical way of keeping the service's radio system up-to-date, reliable and to prevent its degradation. A 24-year-old man from Orangeville, who was alone driving the GMC pickup truck, is in serious condition at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. Firefighters from the Inglewood fire hall worked to free a number of trapped people. Two were pronounced dead at the scene, one suffered critical injuries and the other five in the van suffered minor injuries. One published report said that White's common-law wife Stephanie Lytle, 41, and four of her children were injured in the crash and that the group were returning home from a pre-wedding barbecue celebration in Shelburne. Lytle is reported to be in critical condition in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. Highway 10 between Charlestown Sideroad and Olde Base Line Road was closed to traffic for several hours until being reopened early Sunday morning in order for officers with the OPP Central Region Technical Traffic Collision investigators to complete their investigation. Witnesses are asked to contact Caledon OPP at 905-584-2241.
