Paws to Read at the library Is your child a reluctant reader? In October, Halton Hills Public Library will launch a new program called Paws to Read, where children will read to a dog that is specially trained to sit quietly and listen. It is that time of year when the (GLTYC) Youth Company opens its doors to new members as well as welcoming back old ones. Their first general meeting is on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 1 p.m. GLTYC meets almost every Saturday throughout the school year. The age range is 10-18. Membership is $20 with $5 per any additional fall workshop, one wishes to attend. These are held from 1-3 p.m. on various Saturdays and adults are welcome to attend workshops as well. Throughout the fall, they are aimed mostly at the actor's craft, i.e. voice, characterization, improv, along with directing, and stage management. In the spring the workshops are free and are about building the spring production, i.e. costume design and construction, set building, painting, and lighting. The Youth Company has two performance opportunities each season. On Sept. 15 there will be auditions for the Y1A--Youth One Acts, which will be performed November 22, 23, 24. For auditions one needs to phone the Studio and sign up for a specific time. The May performance, Macbeth auditions are held in December or January. Rehearsals are held on weeknights as well as the regular Saturdays. GLT is a completely volunteer community theatre organization. Cat Heaven and Kay d'Entremont head up a team of supportive volunteers who love doing theatre and enjoy working with young people. They welcome anyone who shares those interests. You may also catch GLTYC members at the Fall Fair where they will be face painting.
