My Pop Choir to set up new singing group in Georgetown A Georgetown chapter of My Pop Choir will hold its first session Wednesday, September 12 at Knox Presbyterian Church in the downstairs hall. My Pop Choir is a group of community-based, general public choirs for people who love to sing but have no experience and, in their minds, no singing skill. There are no auditions and there are no solos-- it's is all about the love of singing. My Pop Choir began a year ago with one choir in Oakville and has grown to eight choirs in the GTA. Each choir is conducted by an experienced choirmaster who teaches songs in harmony from the world of pop, rock, R&B and soul. My Pop Choir offers three 10-session terms throughout the year. Choir sessions begin at 7 p.m. and run for 90 minutes. For those who would like to see what the experience is like before committing to the full season, there is an option to register in advance on the site for a one-session `pop-In'. For more information, cost and to register, please visit www.mypopchoir.com. To register, phone Sheila Eastman: 905-826-8847 or email: brianhenry@sympatico. ca This course will challenge you to take a step up in your writing. Over the 12 weeks of classes, you'll be asked to bring in five pieces of your writing for detailed feedback. All your pieces may be from the same work, such as a novel in progress, or they may be stand alone pieces. You bring whatever you want to work on. Besides critiquing pieces, the instructor will give short lectures at the start of each class, addressing the needs of the group. In addition to learning how to critique your own work and receiving constructive suggestions about your writing, you'll discover that the greatest benefits come from seeing how your classmates approach and critique a piece of writing and how they write and re-write. This is a challenging course, but extremely rewarding, says Instructor Brian Henry Henry has been a book editor and creative writing teacher for more than 25 years. He teaches at Ryerson University and has led writing workshops everywhere from Boston to Buffalo and from Sarnia to Charlottetown. But he says his proudest boast is that he has helped many of his students get published. Cost of this course is $160.80 13% hst = $193.
