Local Music School Expands to Serve Community Better The Academy of Music doubles in size and adds additional instructors. Georgetown families benefit from new music programs and dance classes for kids. The Academy of Music has expanded into a new location to offer more diverse music programs for all ages, as well as recreational dance classes for children 2 to 8 years and a weekly Zumba/belly dancing class. According to School Director James Franczek, the school has been growing faster than anticipated since opening in Georgetown 3 years ago. This fast growth is due to a dedication to providing convenient, top quality instruction to its students. Every year the school has added more members to its teaching staff and has upgraded its facilities by adding new pianos, and a PA system for student rock bands. Some of the new programs include private ukulele lessons and dance classes for kids. These new classes are added to a schedule that already includes lessons on piano, keyboard, acoustic and electric guitar, voice, violin, viola, fiddle, mandolin and drums, as well as a popular rock band program and Georgetown's first and only Celtic fiddle orchestra. New Staff The Academy of Music has added new teachers to its staff for the fall and parents are very impressed with their level of education. All of the music teachers have university training, RCM, or more than 10 years of professional teaching/performance experience. Many of them perform regularly in rock and jazz bands or in high-level orchestras. "The reason for the school's success is based on a several factors," according to Director Franczek. "The qualified teachers, regular performance opportunities and optional music exams all play a large role. However, it's our passion for teaching that is the biggest reason students and parents love the school." Dance Classes for ages 2 to 8 years The school's new recreational dance program is designed specifically for young children to learn how to dance without the pressures of exams or competitions. The Kindergarten dance classes combine ballet and jazz in one fun-filled program for kids ages 2 to 5 years, and hip hop/jazz for kids 6 to 8 years. The new dance program gets a great new name The dance classes will be taught under the name Georgetown Dance Academy, which will have all the benefits and resources that are available at the Academy of Music . Facility offers extra benefits for dancers One of the most important features of a dance studio is the type of flooring used. The Georgetown Dance Acacemy uses a professional floating Marley dance floor that has hundreds of compression foam blocks under the surface that absorb the impact of dancing and help keep the students and teachers energized. It is also a great form of injury avoidance. Zumba/Belly Dancing Classes Every Thursday evening, moms and teens can enjoy a combination of Zumba and belly dancing in one fun-filled fitness class. The Georgetown Dance Academy welcomes Sara Gambino to the studio. Sara is an independent Zumba certified instructor. The $10 weekly drop in classes will be on Thursdays from 7-8 p.m. beginning September 13th. Due to the expanded facilities and new teachers on staff, the Academy of f Music will be accepting new registrations now and throughout the early fall.
