The impact that a volunteer can make in a child's life is life altering. The following is a testament to the power of mentoring: Ben's* mother approached the agency 11 years ago looking for support for her son. Twelve year old Ben had recently lost his father to a fatal road accident and was struggling to cope with his loss. Within a few months, he was matched with a Big Brother, Steve*, and this was the beginning of a lifelong friendship. Ben and Steve were matched for 7 years until the match graduated from the agency. To this day, they continue to see each other regularly. Ben, now in his 20s and currently enrolled in the Police Foundations Program at a local community college, called the agency five months ago and expressed his interest in becoming a mentor. Ben speaks eloquently about the impact of his Big during his teen years, and wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful way. Ben is now matched in the In-School Mentoring program with a little boy who recently lost his father. Ultimately, the power of mentoring can change multiple lives through one single action.
