Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-Up set for the weekend On Saturday, Sept. 22, and Sunday, Sept. 23. Credit Valley Conservation Foundation and Willow Park Ecology Centre will be participating in the Great Canadian Shoreline Clean-up. The goal is to clean up the Credit River and Silver Creek and tributaries as much as possible. To make this ambitious goal a reality, volunteeer help is needed. Shoreline litter impacts our environment in many different ways. Long terms effects can be felt on our ecosystem, on wildlife, and on the people who depend on their local sources of water. During the 2011 GCSC, 351,238 cigarette/ cigarette filters were collected, 111,018 food wrappers, 71,200 plastic bags, 65,220 caps and lids, and 39,308 beverage bottles. Some of the more interesting items found in Ontario last year were a Payphone, wedding dress, and a hospital bed. But no matter how interesting the item, it is still making a negative impact on our local environment. Volunteer as an individual or group to help clean-up one of the pre-determined sites: · Credit River near the Barber Mill in Georgetown at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Go to http://shorelinecleanup.ca/en/cleanup/event/fall2012/credit-river-georgetown · Silver Creek in Georgetown on Sunday.
