SPORTS & LEISURE High school roundup 9 ·The IFP· Halton Hills, Tuesday, September 25, 2012 Rebels earn football split The Halton high school football Tier II regular season began Thursday for the Georgetown teams and only one of the four squads was able to get into the win column on opening day. Georgetown District High School's junior Rebels chalked up an impressive 32-14 over the Iroquois Ridge Trailblazers at Kiwanis Field, with running back Aaron Steffens scoring four touchdowns on the afternoon. Quarterback Connor Heggie connected with Ryan Childs on a long pass-and-run play for GDHS's other major score. The senior Rebels lost on home turf 10-2 to the Ridge in a game that wasn't decided until the final five minutes. Christ the King's seniors dropped a 27-7 decision to the T.A. Blakelock Tigers Thursday in Oakville and the junior Jags also fell to Blakelock 28-6. On Thursday, Oct. 4, Georgetown will host CtK in a football doubleheader. The juniors will square off at 5 p.m. and the seniors' game is set for 7 p.m. Admission is $2 per person and proceeds will go towards the fundraising campaign against breast cancer. Golf Lawrence Beauchamps of GDHS had the second-lowest round of the day with a 76 to help the Rebels also finish runner-up in the team standings at the HSSAA Golf Tour's second stop of the season on Friday at the Wyldewood Golf Club in Hornby. Callum Biehn (79), Gray Potter (82) and Dylan Morris (87) rounded out the GDHS team scores as they ended up two shots back of winner Notre Dame.
