12 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, JULY 05, 2012 Township Digest French Immersion in Rockwood? If student numbers are confirmed by an early registration in October 2013, a JK/SK French Immersion program will begin in Rockwood in September 2014. Upper Grand District School Board trustees recently approved the recommendations of the Rockwood French Immersion (FI) Feasibility Study. The study found that there appears to be sufficient numbers of students to begin a JK/SK FI program in Rockwood in 2014, and if numbers permit, a JK/SK/Grade one program for 2014 would also be considered. The program would grow each year by grade. The location for the FI program has yet to be determined, but Trustees also approved, in principle, a revision to the Full Day Kindergarten (FDK) Plan that modifies an earlier proposal to build an Early Learning Centre in Rockwood. The FDK Capital Plan calls for the construction of a new elementary school with 13 classrooms and a capacity of 308 students. The proposed project is still subject to a successful land purchase and Ministry approvals. Grade 10 Literacy results Consistent with last year's results, 84 per cent of Grade 10 students eligible to write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) for the first time were successful this year. Once again, the board's results were higher than the provincial average of 82 per cent. Theatre offerings The romantic comedy Late Flowering opens the Summer Festival on July 11 at the Century Church Theatre in Hillsburgh. The August offering is Nobody's Perfect , and rounding out the season will be the North American premier of Just the Ticket. All three shows have weekday and weekend matinees as well as evening performances. For details visit www.centurychurchtheatre.com or call the box office at 519-855-4586. DR.
