Main Street North Construction to begin Within weeks, Halton's $2-million project to replace aging and breaking watermains under Main Street, from Knox Street to Wallace Street, will begin. The work will disrupt traffic, according to project manager Chris Ewen, but for most of the construction, two lanes will be open at night, and may be down to one lane during the day. Halton will install temporary water connections to homes and businesses along the route, so there will not be any long-term shutoffs, and although there will be some short-term water shutoffs, affected residents will receive 48 hours notice. With a "significant' number of breaks in the underground pipes Ewen could not say how many the watermain replacement project has been on the books for two years. Wo r k t o r e p l a c e the various sizes of watermain with one, 300-millimetre pipe, will begin at Knox Street and work its way north. The work should be complete by the end of November.
