16 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY,AUGUST 23, 2012 Whoops, I goofed last week. I had the trip to Mohawk on the same day as the Blue Springs Golf Tournament. I know people read the column in the Tanner as I had several calls before I had chance to read my copy. The correct dates are golf on Wednesday, September 19 and Mohawk on Monday, September 24. On Tuesday, August 14 members from the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centres spent the day cruising the Grand River. They tell me the rain didn't dampen their spirits and everyone enjoyed the cruise, the captain's jokes, the entertainment and their meal. The travel desk asked me to mention that if you are planning to go to Niagara on Tuesday, September 11 please pop in and pay as soon as possible. If you come to lunch on Fridays you might notice some new faces and some slight changes to the meals. Joyce Marrows and her daughter Alison Colter have prepared and served the meals every Friday for five years, and are taking a much deserved break. Joyce will be still helping one Friday each month. The Acton Seniors Cen- tre Board members feel that the Friday lunch is very important socially, and provides an enjoyable lunch at a reasonable price. If you come to lunch on Fridays please be patient with us through the changes over the next few weeks. It is very important that you have your name on the list by Wednesday afternoon. If you aren't able to get to the Centre you can phone the front desk and add your name. If you feel you would like to join a team on a Friday please let the front desk know. Just a reminder to the Reception Committee members that their semiannual meeting will be held on September 4 at 10 a.m. at the Acton Seniors Centre. All volunteers must attend. If you are interested in volunteering this is a great opportunity to find out what being a volunteer receptionist involves. Roberta Thompson had the only mooner at Bid Euchre last Thursday. The Centre will be closed on September 3 for the Labour Day holiday. On Thursday, September 6 the advertisement with the scheduled activities for the following week's Open Houses at both the Acton and Georgetown Seniors Centers will be in the local papers. It would be a good idea to save it. There are lots of interesting free programs and activities planned, with refreshments and free draws each day. Please see the display board in the Centre behind the reception desk. The board will have further information on the terrific presentations and workshops planned for that week. The weekly 50/50 was not won this week, so the prize money should be around $120 next week. All in a Basket 132 Alma St. Rockwood Ont.
