DATE/TIME: LOCATION: FILE NO: Monday, October 15, 2012 at 7:00PM Council Chambers, Civic Centre D14ZBA12.006 (32 Eastern Avenue & 160 Church Street East, Acton) The EQAO Education Quality and Accountability Office results for students at Acton's St. Joseph Catholic School exceeded both the provincial and Board-wide levels of achievement in Grades three writing and math, and in Grade six writing. The results of mandatory testing done last spring showed the Grade three reading results exceeded the provincial average, but not the Board-wide results. The Grade six reading results were lower than the provincial average, but higher than Board-wide results, and the math results exceed achievement levels province-wide, but were lower than the Board-wide numbers. The provincial standard is Level three or above which translates into a "B" grade or above. "We are pleased with these results and are particularly encouraged by the number of students in each area who continue to achieve the provincial standard from one assessment to the next," said Michael Pautler, Director of Education for the Halton Catholic District School Board in a press release. "We will focus our ongoing efforts to identify strategies for improvement that will enhance student learning." Two versions of the EQAO tests were administered to Grade nine students Applied math and Academic math. Each version was based on the Grade nine expectations for the Ontario Curriculum. At Christ the King, the school of choice for many Acton Catholic students, the Academic results that students achieved at Level three or above exceeded the provincial average, but were lower than the Board-wide results. In Applied math, students at Christ the King exceeded achievement levels of both the provincial and Board. Results for both the Academic and Applied math Board-wide show increases over last year, and the Board figures of achievement have exceed the province-wide results for the past five school years.
