THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2012 THE NEW TANNER 11 Township Digest Successful Fox Run The Rockwood Terry Fox Run raised "a shade under $10,000" in pledges and donations, bringing the 29-year total for the event to $130,000. "I'm happy. I'm ecstatic with the dollars it is a little run, and in the past five years we've been approaching that $10,000 mark," organizer Steve Thomson said last Thursday. Twenty-five participants as young as four and as old as 75 took part in the event which included a five-kilometre loop through the village, a route that eliminated another five-kilometre loop to the south of the village to avoid the on-going Highway 7 reconstruction as possible. The first Rockwood Fox Run was an outreach project of the youth group at Stone United Church and many of the participants in the September 16th Run were Church members. The driver took off at a high rate of speed to avoid arrest, leading to a brief police pursuit which was called off due to public safety concerns. A short time later, the passenger from Rockwood was located and searched and a small amount of marijuana was seized. The next day, the driver, a 23-year-old Guelph man, turned himself into police and was charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from police, resisting arrest and speeding.
