Crews reset the alarm and made note that a smoke alarm was missing from a first floor apartment. Bikes crash A husband and wife from Acton suffered varied injuries after colliding in the intersection of Highway 7 and Dublin Line at 2:42 last Thursday afternoon. Acton firefighters helped EMS treat the unidentified victims. No other details were released. Ford fire The driver of a Ford pickup truck that caught fire was safely out of his truck when Acton firefighters arrived at the Guelph Line/ 30 Side Road accident scene at 6:21 last Tuesday evening. The truck was in the ditch and the fire spread to the bush before it was extinguished and the scene turned over to Halton police. Ted Tyler photo Student survey to guide instruction The Halton District School Board is working with the Our Kids Network, the Halton Catholic District School Board and the Region of Halton to complete the Halton Youth Survey up until November 9. Grade 7 and 10 students will complete the voluntary, web-based survey during school hours - their parents have been informed out the survey. This survey represents part of the Board's ongoing effort to monitor student learning and the factors that influence learning, and to make improvements to ensure students are given the opportunity to succeed in school. The survey will take approximately 25 minutes to complete. Individual students cannot be identified. The findings will be reported in a way that ensures complete confidentiality. Information on the survey will never appear in any school records. The survey covers topics such as school engagement, participation in community activities, physical health, mental well being, and participation in non-risk and risk related activities. Data gathered through this survey will enhance the Board's understanding of the diverse needs of students, will be used to support school improvement planning, and will play an important role in improving the culture and climate of schools Survey concludes November 9, and can be found at www.hdsb.ca Acton man found An Acton man who went missing for more than two days over the weekend, returned to his Acton group home late Sunday night, healthy and unharmed. Kevin Ronald Mitchell, 19, went missing late Friday afternoon and police asked for media and public assistance in locating him because he had medical issues, developmental disabilities and requires medication daily. Without the medication police said Mitchell could become confused and possibly delusional about his surroundings. Police said Mitchell, who lives at the York House, has a history of disappearing and in the past had been found in Oakville, where he lived until several months go. Worth the drive? Thirty minutes after police were alerted to a car driving erratically on Highway 25 near 22 Side Road on Saturday, police found the driver, a 45-year-old Burlington woman parked on Vimy Street. She was asleep at the wheel, a large dog in the passenger seat beside her. The woman was arrested and charged with driving while impaired by drugs police found approximately 1,000 pills on her possession including 158 Tylenol 3 painkillers, anxiety and anti-depressant pills, and also one gram of marijuana. She told police she was taking her dog shopping. Gas & Go suspect Halton police are looking for the driver of a black Honda CRV who filled his tank with $69.37 worth of gas at the Petro Canada gas bar in Acton on Friday and then took off without paying. Police have a license plate number and are looking for the suspect. False alarm? No word why the fire and burglar alarms sounded at 7:08 on Friday night at St. Joseph Catholic School on Mill Street West.
