THURSDAY, OCTOBER 18, 2012 THE NEW TANNER 3 Branch no. 197 Legion news By Sharon Graham P.R.O. Comrades, On behalf of Governor General of Canada, Wes Kutasienski was awarded with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal last Thursday at the Acton Town Hall Centre. It was nice to see a Legion member getting such a great award. The Branch is having a farewell party for George and Alice DeRabbie. They are going to be moving back home to Nova Scotia, and we want to give them a send off. The party is on November 3 in the main hall at 8 p.m. We are hoping to see all of the members there. This is an open event and all are welcome. It will be a pot luck, so if you can attend and bring something that would be great. Please contact Sharon Graham. The email is sharong@ creativenetworkingsolutions.com.or contact the Branch and leave a message and I will get right back to you. Sunday, November 11 is our annual Remembrance Day Parade. At 10 a.m. we will meet at the Hide House parking lot and marching off at 10:30 a.m. to the Cenotaph for our Remembrance Day Service. After the parade we will be gathering at the Branch, in the main hall, with the service starting at 12:30 p.m. and the roast beef dinner at 1:15 p.m. You can purchase your dinner tickets at the bar for $5 until October 30.. We are also looking for volunteers to take part in our door- to- door Poppy Blitz which will be held on Friday, October 26. You can sign the book at the Branch indicating which street(s) you are able to canvas. Remember with your membership you made an oath to help out with the Poppy Blitz so we are hoping to get many members out as it will make less work for everyone. If you have any questions please contact your Poppy Chair, Bob Service, at the Branch or by email bobservice@sympatico. ca. Santa has arranged a visit to the Branch on Sunday Dec. 9. The party starts at 1 p.m. Check that your child's name is on the list posted at the Branch and is in the right age group. The cut off date is November 12 and only children of 2012 paid up members of Branch and Auxiliary will be eligible for Santa's gifts. Grandchildren not included. There will be a drill seminar on October 21 at 10 a.m. in the main hall. This will be the fourth drill seminar we have held. This time we have also invited the District. There will be three parts to this seminar. Beginners drill for those that have not attended before, advanced drill for those that have attended before, and ex military. Norm will take small groups for colour parties and teach the proper drill for these groups. This will also involve the Sgt-at-Arms so they can learn the proper commands and the different ways of presenting the colours. We hope to see our members come out. The Cadets are putting on a fundraiser dance on October 27. If you have nothing to do on this evening why not come out to support your Cadets? .The cost of the tickets is $15 per person.
