8 THE NEW TANNER THURSDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2012 Fire Report Alarm triggered A spike in water pressure triggered an alarm on Elizabeth Drive last Thursday at 5:33 p.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were told the alarm activated when the alarm system was being brought back on line. The alarm panel was reset. Smoking wires Earlier that day at 11:51 a.m., a contractor for Halton Region, which is replacing underground pipes, pulled the hydro feed out of the road on John Street. That resulted in an electrical panel being pulled from the wall of a residence it was smoking when firefighters entered the basement. Firefighters remained on scene until the property owner arrived. Nearly 100 students were so excited to learn about fire safety, meet some real firefighters, learn more about how firefighters are community helpers and explore a fire truck. Hannah said, "I know those are real firefighters because they have real uniforms." Avery knew that if you ever caught on fire you had to, "stop, drop and roll." Liam's favourite part of the visit was getting to, "sit on the bumper and say cheese for a picture." Firefighter Tom taught us that firefighters are community helpers because they come to teach children at schools and they help in emergencies. Braeden learned that firefighters hook up hoses to fire hydrants to, "shoot out water at fires." Shane thought that this was the, "mostest exciting day ever" because he had never been inside a fire truck before. It was a very exciting day for the Kindergarteners who wrote the firefighters a thank you note and drew many pictures. The visit tied in nicely with the students learning more about community helpers.
