THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 08, 2012 THE NEW TANNER 19 I hope you are enjoying the twice monthly catered Friday lunches. We had a little survey about the once a month Pot Luck lunches, and most people agreed they would rather have a catered dinner or soup and sandwich. Real has to order the lunches early on Thursday mornings. Last week several people wrote their names down twice, and we had quite a few no shows. We have to pay for the lunches ordered, which may mean we may have to increase the price to cover these problems, or you may be asked to pay when you sign up. We realize that sometimes there are unexpected occasions when you can't make the lunch due to sickness etc, but if your name is down, please try and make it, or phone in the morning and say you will have someone pick it up for you. The Friday lunch on November 16 will be Swiss Chalet chicken, garden salad and desert. At noon on Tuesday, November 20 we will get into the Christmas spirit early, starting with decorating the Christmas tree and lunch, followed by the movie Arthur Christmas. All this fun for just the drop in fee of $1. More fun on Monday, November 12 when we will be having a roast beef dinner and entertainment. Tickets are available at the Centre, and on Saturday, November 17 there will be Bingo in the community hall. We are hoping for a large crowd. More players mean more fun. For more information call 519-8535951. Thursday is games day at the Centre. Members play Canasta and cribbage in the morning, and Bridge and Bid Euchre in the afternoon. Mary Erwin has the only mooner at Bid Euchre. The Bridge players would love to see more people. For the more MISSING energetic there is also line dancing in the community hall in the afternoon. There were no tricks, only treats on Wednesday, October 31, when the seniors went for the monthly trip to Rama. The 50/50 was won by Renate Dzieciol. Mary Van Der Sanden received the birthday prize and in the lucky seats were Susan Bonnell, Linda Spiteri and Marie Richardson. Please note that the December trip will be on Thursday, December 27. During the winter months Rama allowed us to cut back to four hours spent at the Casino. The latest copy of Hillsview is at the front desk. Due to last minute changes there are a few corrections to the activities, one being the December Rama date. If you read the column in the newspaper you should be up to date on everything happening at the Centre. I will try and list the Friday lunches in BIRTHDAY BUNCH: Members of the Acton Senior Centre shared cake and best wishes as they celebrated their birthdays on Monday. The partiers included, front left: Pat Frizzell, Anna Rosenmeier, Heather Thompson and Donna Boyko. Middle: Stephanie Westaway, Barbara Hibbert, Kathleen Alder, Madeleine Lee, Ruth Michasiw, Jacky Willows, Betty Holmes and Doreen Davitsky. Back: Edward Czuchnicki. Victor Bissonnette, Bill Fox, Steve Palichuk and Mac Sprowl. Julie Conroy photo good time for you to add your name to the list. On Tuesday, December 4 at 1:30 p.m., Gerry Kentner will be at the Centre with a Christmas cooking workshop. She will feature soup, appetizer and dessert. I am sure you have all read her articles in a local paper, now is your chance to meet her in person. If you are interested, please sign the appropriate sheet at reception. Starting on January 8, there will be an Introduction to Computers course. The first class is geared for beginners. Watch for more details later. The name drawn at the weekly 50/50 had not put their loonie in the box, so next week the amount to be won should be around $300. PUBLIC NOTICE "Jake" has been missing since July from the Main St. North area. Please call with information The Town of Halton Hills has submitted a request for an amendment to By-law 2010-0037 (Municipal Cemeteries By-law) to the Ministry of Consumer Services. The amendments are required to comply with the Funeral, Burial and Cremation Services Act, 2002 that came into effect in July 2012. The major changes to the municipal by-law resulting from the legislation include: · Consumer protection measures including the provision of specific material at the time of a sale, the format of contracts and interment rights certificates, and the addition of a thirty day cancellation period from the date entering into a contract; · A restriction on the resale of unused interment rights: the new legislation allows the Town to prohibit the resale of interment rights on the open market, as reflected in the proposed by-law; · The requirement for Formal Agreements between funeral homes and cemeteries when sales representatives may be selling products or arranging services on the other party's behalf. In addition to the new legislative requirements, the existing by-law has been updated to reflect the following operational issues such as supplemental definitions, the provision of interments all year round during specific conditions, and specifications for monument inscriptions and marker sizes. The Town's by-law amendments are not in effect until approved by the Registrar of the Cemeteries Regulation Unit of the Ministry of Consumer Services.
