8 THE NEW TANNER Branch no. 197 Legion n ews By Sharon Graham P.R.O. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 2012 Comrades, It is so nice to see the houses decorated up for Christmas. I think we all should take a drive to see all of the work that people do just before Christmas. We all know that this is a very busy time of the year as there is a lot to do to get ready for Christmas. Please remember our veterans and seniors. If you know someone that might be all alone for Christmas why not make them up a dinner or invite them to share a dinner with you at your table? No one should be all alone for Christmas. Our Poppy Chair Bob Service would like to thank all of the members that helped make this Poppy campaign a great success. There was entertainment at the Branch this past Saturday with Neil Cotton. It was a good afternoon despite the cold weather. Our next entertainment is on December 7 with Rock 40 in the games room from 7 to 11 p.m. Put on your dancing shoes and come out and enjoy. Everyone is welcome. Please remember our annual Turkey roll is coming up on December 8, and you are all invited - family, friends and neighbours. Come out for some great games and a chance to win a turkey for Christmas. All of the fun will start at 2 p.m., so mark your calendar and make it a day of fun. On December 9 Santa Claus will be making an appearance for the children's Christmas party. If you are looking for a hall for a party or a wedding come out to see our halls. I am sure you will be very impressed. Just call the Branch and they will give you all of the info you might need. Ladies Auxiliary Notes The Ladies Auxiliary held its qualifying round for District Darts and I would say the day was a success, even though we did not all go on to District Darts in Kirkland Lake. Congratulations to Teresa who placed third place in Singles and Teresa and Sherri who placed fourth in Doubles. Norma thanks the cooks who did and excellent job cooking all day John, Bob, Ryan and Gary. To the bartender Kieth, thank you. Thank you to Betty Green and Marg Haring who stayed all day to take orders for the kitchen and sell coffee and donuts, and to Betty also who peddled all the veggie plates and sold everyone of them. To the Acton dart players who came in on Thursday and Friday to help with the NEW HATS: Members of the Robert Little School Everybody dance club donned their new hats purchased with funs from the Rotary club of Acton and the Acton Trunk sale organizers. Forty-three Grades four and five students performed on Tuesday night at the Halton Dance & Drama Creating a Scene event in Burlington. Ted Tyler photo bags, and those who also helped on Saturday, and you know who you are thank you. It is with deepest sympathy we announce the loss of two of our members this month - Joan Ford and Bette Foottit. Bette was a 25-year member and when she lived in town always came to meetings and helped with serving at the banquets. Our sympathy is extended to Ed her husband and to her family. Joan was a 63-year member and also a Life Member of the LA, and was active member up until a few years ago. She was a member of the colour party and was always known to carry the Union Jack proudly - a flag to this day we call Joan's flag. Our sympathy is extended to Art her husband and family, and also to Erika Hunter who is a member of the LA following in her grandmother's footsteps. Sympathy is also sent to Joyce Buchanan who lost her brother. To all our members who are under the weather we hope you soon will be feeling better we do think about you and miss you at our meetings. The LA Christmas party is Thursday, December 6 starting at 5:30 p.m., with appetizers followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. Don't forget the Christmas bulb exchange and your gift for the penny sale table.
