CHARGERS BATTLE TO 4-ALL TIE: Acton Peewee Charger goalie Josh Dunbar deflected a shot on his net as Ben Armstrong came in for the rebound during Acton's 4-4 home game tie with Centre Wellington on Sunday night. Submitted photo Tie for Peewee Chargers The Acton Peewee Chargers three game win streak was challenged Sunday night at home when the squad faced Centre Wellington. The defence had their work cut out for them during the first period as CW came on strong, scoring their first goal three minutes into the game. That lead was short lived when 46 seconds later, Jake Case tied it up, unassisted. Ethan Constable had a breakaway and scored, assisted by Lucas Scully and Makayla Dee, giving Acton the lead going into the second period. Acton played stronger during second period and pulled ahead to a 4-2 lead, with Case taking a pass from Kyle Spence, and shooting towards the net, where Jack Timmerman put in a rebound. With 17 seconds left Case went wide down the right side and from the far corner scored his second of the game, with assists from Spence and Andrew Grant. In the third period, Acton had trouble clearing its end, yet the team held the 4-3 lead until CW scored with only one minute left in the game. The Chargers showed strong spirit though, holding that score short-handed until the buzzer sounded. It was a hard fought game, with impressive goaltending by both Joshua Dunbar and Ethan Krusky. Tanners blank Optical In Acton Ladies Hockey Tanners Pub & Grill knocked off Acton Optical 2-0 on Friday at Acton arena. Carolyn Hill scored both Tanners goals on unassisted. Hill scored in the first period and again in the last minute of play. Daina McKellar filled in goal for the Pub and earned the shut out. In the second game, S m o o t h & Tr e n d z y edged Active Choice 2-1. Jane McKay scored putting Active Choice in the lead 1-0, assisted by Kim Bandy Bollert and Fiona Brown. Nicholl Spence replied from Gina Wright and Heather Monk. Tina McLeod scored the game winner with 59 seconds remaining from Diane Blazenko for Smooth & Trendzy. Tomorrow night Smooth & Trendzy visit Acton Optical at 10 p.m., and Tanners Pub & Grill visit Active Choice at 11 p.m. Atom BB Tanners grab first place The TRENDZ/Dufferin Aggregate Atom BB Tanners played Oakville on Saturday, with the winner moving into first place. Oakville came out fast, scoring on the first two shifts of the game and adding a third before the first period ended. Goalie Matthew Lantz made some key saves to keep the Tanners in it, and a superb rush with a minute to go in the second by Brett Hilts started the comeback. Zach Knight bounced a rebound in off a Spencer Booth shot just seconds later and Gabe Rowsell found the open net with assists to Stuart Macdonald and Brady Worthman, to tie the game before the period ended. Nolan Cree gave the Tanners the lead on a nice feed from Booth. Eric Marrows showed some nice stick handling, scoring the Tanners fifth in a row, after Roberto Ferraioli and Hilts set him up. Oakville scored another but Worthman was sent in on a breakaway by Macdonald in the final minute and made no mistake to seal the deal 6-4. Sunday saw a flat Tanners team visit Flamborough and fall behind in the first minute. Booth tied it from Cree halfway through the first, and goalie Connor Brearley played well but a spirited Flamborough squad would not be denied and hung on for a 1-1 tie. The Atom BB Tanners next home game is a rematch with Oakville on Saturday at 6:40 p.m.
