THURSDAY, DECEMBER 20, 2012 THE NEW TANNER 5 Police Report Bah, humbug Last Monday they unwrapped and pulled the plug, leaving Acton's Christmas Tree of Hope in darkness. After six red and green trees flanking the big tree in front of the Acton arena also went dark, Acton BIA manager Josey Bonnette found 10 extension cords bringing power to the trees had been stolen, one wrenched violently, breaking the plug. "It's disheartening it's a shame," Bonnette said on Tuesday, hoping that the lights will stay on until the New Year. The Acton Tree of Hope has been decorated for the past two years as part of the Light Up The Hills community holiday celebration. On a bright note, after learning of the theft, BIA Board Chair Nancy Wilkes offered to pay to replace the stolen extension cords. TOWN STOCKS FOODSHARE: Town staff donated two pickup trucks beds full of groceries to local food banks and on Tuesday, Mayor Rick Bonnette ( second of right) and Town Public works Supervisor Dick Spear (right) delivered half of the donated food to Acton FoodShare, where it was gratefully accepted by Board Director Real Tetreault and chair Arlene Humphreys. Halton Hills councillors will be asked to support a call for the Canadian Heritage Rivers Board to support the nomination of the Credit River as a candidate for designation as a Canadian Heritage River. Glen Williams Councillor Joan Robson will raise the issue at the first council meeting in the New Year. Robson is Council's rep on the board of directors of Credit Valley Conservation, which called for the nomination, stating that the Credit deserves to be recognized for its unique, natural, cultural and recreational values. It said the Credit River is one of the most ecologically diverse ecosystems in all of Canada and had the most diverse coldwater fishery in Ontario. #1318988 Dec 24 ..................................... 9am - 12pm Dec 25 ........
