Lock it or lose it Halton police believe one person may be to blame for a rash of at least 14 thefts from vehicles in the Acton area over Christmas. While many of the cars were ransacked, the largest loss appears to be $150 in cash stolen from a vehicle parked at an Elizabeth Drive residence just prior to the holiday. When the thief returned for a second time on Christmas Day, the homeowners' security camera captured a good quality photo of the suspect, which was turned over to police. Acting Detective Sergeant David Costantini said the "majority, if not all" of the thefts involved vehicles left unlocked. On December 22, there were eight separate thefts from autos, four of them on Brown's Crescent, and the others in the area on Lasby Lane, McDonald Boulevard, Hurst Street and Churchill Road North. "Locking your (car) door doesn't make it seem like you're not going to be a victim, but it certainly makes it harder (for thieves)," Acton D/S Costantini said on Friday, adding people need to make it has hard as possible for potential thieves by not leaving anything of value in their vehicle and locking the doors.
