THURSDAY, JANUARY 10, 2013 415 QUEEN ST. E. By Julie Conroy Have you lost a family birthstone ring recently or a small wooden cross, or blue and silver pendent earring? They are at the front desk in the cash register. Thinking of "lost and found," a lady paid for a tea pot and casserole dish at the Christmas Bazaar but didn't pick them up. They are also waiting at the front desk for her. We would be happy to return them to you if you can describe your item. Tickets are on sale at the front desk for the next social dinner on Tuesday, January 15. The Gang from the Hill will be entertaining us, and Sheppard's Pie and a special desert are on the menu for dinner. Friday's lunch on January 11 will be spaghetti, caesar salad, and of course, dessert. The following Friday, January 18, Boston clam chowder, assorted sandwiches and desert will be served. If you are interested please sign up by the Wednesday before the lunch. Sometime we have a cancellation, so if you would like to come after the cut off date, you can always phone and see if anyone has cancelled. Real has to order the meals from the restaurant by Thursday mornings. The computer classes began on Tuesday at 9 a.m. The first class was on setting up your computer and learning about the basic components. Participants also acquired a basic understanding of the Windows operating systems as well as important computer vocabulary. The second class covers installing and using Microsoft Office and Open Office programs. I.e.: Word, Publisher, Excel, Power Point, One Note and Outlook. These programs are a computer user's best friend. You will be able to write letters keep track of finances, family photos, or create slideshows, keep a personal journal and send and receive emails. You can bring your own lap top or share one of the Centre's laptops. This is a five week course, but you can pick and choose which classes interest you. If your birthday was in either December or January you should receive a phone call inviting you to the Birthday Tea on Tuesday, January 22 at 1:30 p.m. Please note the earlier start. In future all Tuesday programs will start at 1:30 p.m. On Thursday afternoon, Joan Bateman, Roberta Thompson and Shirley Hunter each had a mooner. There was one table of Bridge players back after the holiday they said they would love to see more players. The Monday morning craft group would like to visit Mary Maxim Craft Store in the Spring. I have tentatively booked April 8. If you would like to join them, please sign the appropriate sheet. The 50/50 was not won on Friday, December 28. The amount to be won next Friday should be around $325. If you have not renewed your membership, your name will be pulled from the 50/50 drum and your name will be taken out of the system, so be sure to renew for 2013. THE NEW TANNER 7 CLINIC MILESTONES: Acton's John Lindsay (top photo) gave blood for the 125th time at Monday's Canadian Blood Services clinic at the Acton arena. His gift of life was gladly collected by phlebotomist Jolanta. It was also a milestone clinic for Acton clinic coordinator Fran Morris who celebrated her birthday with the help daughter Heather Morris-Stokes (left), son-on-law Stan Stokes and granddaughter Cassandra Stokes.
