Peewee AE Tanner report The getconnected.ca Peewee AE team opened their OMHA round one play downs against Erin Hillsburgh Devils on Saturday. The Devils opened the scoring but the Tanners answered back three minutes later when Defensemen Jacob Coleman broke out of the Acton end and fed the puck from the point to Cian Dumas, then to Torin Martin for tying goal. Martin scored his second of the night in the second period, assisted again by Dumas and Dylan Palmer. The Tanners pulled ahead by two with some gritty play around the net by Martin and Dumas again to help Palmer get his first of the night. Some penalty trouble in the third allowed Erin to get back in the game, tying it at three. Coleman went end-to-end with four minutes remaining to score his first goal of the season to tie the game, and force a ten-minute overtime period. Still four-on-four, the Tanners streaked into the Devils end, and scrambled around the net by Dumas and Ethan Constable allowed Brian Secord to tip the puck behind the Erin goalie for the exciting win. Sunday was another barn burner with Erin. The Devils jumped on the board again first, but the line up of Secord, Constable and Dumas was on fire again with Dumas putting two goals in with assists from his line mates. PLAYDOWN POWER: Defenseman Jacob Coleman (left) scored his first goal of the season and had an assist as the getconnected.ca Peewee AE team edged the Erin Hillsburgh Devils 5-4 on Saturday in round one of Ontario Minor Hockey Association playdowns. Acton downed Erin 4-3 on Sunday. Submitted photo Erin came back to tie the game in the second period, and went up by two goals for a 4-2 score. The Tanners fought back late in the period with some great passing by Meihm over to Martin who took a big wrist shot from the point and Palmer tipped in. Once again wingers like Montini and Jones were solid against the boards. Acton put the game away with a great pass from behind the net. Secord drew the defence and goalie the other way then put a pass back between his legs to Constable who popped in the puck in a wide open net for the winning goal. Acton's defence shut down Erin in the third and goalie Owen Ferguson was once again solid in net. Gedge gets it In Acton Ladies Hockey action, Acton Optical and Active Choice played to a 3-3 draw. Christy Gedge led the Opticals by scoring all three goals including the tying goal mid-way through the third period. Assisting on Gedges' goals were Liz Holmes with two, Irene Tilling and Gloria Lipp. Scoring for Active Choice were Kim Nytrai, Fiona Brown and Jane McKay. Angie Palmer and Kim Bandy Bollert earned assists. In the second game, Smooth & Trendzy defeated Tanners Pub & Grill 4-1. Carrie Gallant gave Tanners a 1-0 lead from Kathleen Bevan and Daina McKellar. Annette Kroezen and Lori McIntyre replied for Trendzy in the second period. Kroezen and McIntyre each scored their second goal in the third period to put the game out of reach. Assisting on Smooth & Trendzy goals were Tina McLeod and Linda Vickery with two each. Tracey Chargers 4-1-1 on season Acton Chargers hosted a select game against Erin-Hillsburgh on home ice on Sunday. The teams were evenly matched and the game was scoreless until three minutes left in the second period. Ethan Krusky defended his "house" like a pro for the first half of the game, and Josh Dunbar followed suit coming in near the end of the second period. With eight minutes left in the game, Jake Case scored a tying goal, with assists to Makayla Dee and Ben Armstrong. Things took a turn for the worst and Erin pulled out front, scoring four more in the last five minutes of the game. End score was 5 - 2, with our second goal going to Brady Borges, assisted by Carter McPherson and Michael Gillis. This was the first loss of the regular season and all in all was an exciting one to watch. This past Sunday, the Chargers defeated the Kitchener Rangers for the second time this season at the Hillsburgh Arena. Jake Case tied the game up in the first, with one minute left on the clock, assisted by Caleb Van Der Wal and Jack Timmerman. Brady Borges, assisted by Michael Gillis, scored the second goal.
