This year's operating budget includes a 5.9 per cent tax increase for Town purposes, blended with Regional and school board taxes to 2.6 per cent. Pointing to a financial risk indicator report from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing which found Halton Hills had one "moderate" risk, R e g i o n a l / Wa r d Tw o Councillor Jane Fogal suggested they were in pretty good shape and that it would "be nice" to have a more long-range five-year look. "I have a feeling that next year this (the financial picture) isn't going to look quite as good, but then there is a plan to make it look better, and would it be possible to get that projection done?" Fogal asked. DeSousa said he would provide projections, expanding on long-term financial plan information. The risk indicator report said the Town had a "moderate" risk in the category that checks if the municipality had enough working capital to meet its short-term obligations. DeSousa cautioned Town reserves would be lower next year, but didn't know if that would mean a higher risk rating for the Town's ability to cover unplanned expenses with reserves. SURVEY SAYS...
