Beardmore & Co. of Acton made a donation of $150 to the fire brigade of that village for their services at a fire on their premises last week.
Glenwiliams should have a hand fire engine. The Herald advised this [crease in paper] years ago when there was one to be had at very reasonable cost.
A garden party [crease] of Union church, will be held at Mr. Wm. Hoare's on Monday evening, June 4th. Particulars next week.
The firemen had their first practise of the season last Thursday evening. Tehre was a good turn-out of members and all felt better of the exercise.
An inspection of the band stand revealed the fact that the joints were rotten and it was unsafe. It is being repaired and will be in good shape by the 24th.
A meeting will be held at the Bennett home on Monday evening, May 28th, for the purpose of organizing a base ball team. All interested are requested to make it a point to be present.
A garden party will be held on Tuesday June 26th at Mr. Geo. Robertson's lot 15, con. 4, Esquesing, under the auspices of the Ladies Aid of Georgetown Presbyterian church. Particulars later.
Twenty-four years ago the then municipal council of Georgetown decided that a sidewalk to the Glen would be good thing. But it never was built. A four-foot cement walk would meet a long felt want.
Judge Gorham of Milton, has purchased from A.S. Chisholm, through W.S. Davis, his agent, a whole block of land opposite Mr. Regan's and the waterfront to the south, where one of the cottages now stands. - Oakville Star.
A fire occurred in Beardmore's tannery at Acton last week by which the bark mill house was entirely destroyed; the boiler room badly damaged and the west end of the leach house suffered considerably. Some of the machinery was also badly damaged.
The local authorities have been instructed by the Ontario Fish and Game Protective Association to prosecute all boys who are detected robbing birds' nests of eggs. The penalty for this offence is a fine of from $1 to $20, or an option of twelve days in jail.
The 7th Annual Convention of the Provincial Volunteer Firemen's Association will be held in the city of Hamilton this year on Wednesday the 8th of August. Georgetown Brigade belong to this Associaiton and will no doubt be well represented at the convention.
