Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) would like to hear from Halton Hills residents interested in becoming volunteer members of the HHS Board of Directors. With the transfer of Georgetown Hospital to HHS now complete, the composition of the board has been modified to provide equal representation from all the communities it serves. "The Governance Committee recommended that the Board composition be adjusted to include two members of the Halton Hills community, a member of the Halton Hills Town Council and medical representation from the Georgetown Hospital medical staff," said Murray Paton, HHS Board Chair. "Jon Hurst, a member of the Halton Hills Town Council has already been appointed to the board and Dr. Craig Carson, vice-president of the medical staff, has also been appointed to the board. Two interim board members representing Halton Hills have agreed to sit on the board until our recruitment is complete." The elected members of the board will consist of two representatives each from Halton Hills, Milton and Oakville. The remaining five are chosen based on the skill set they bring to the board and the requirement that they live in Halton or Peel Region. To complement the existing board members' backgrounds, HHS is interested in hearing from people with public audit/accounting or healthcare system experience, as
well as business leaders in the community. Those who apply should access their health care in Halton Hills and have some familiarity with Georgetown Hospital. "Individuals with these attributes would match the board member profile we have developed to assist in our recruitment efforts," said Paton. Board members spend a minimum of 15 hours a month on board-related items, including board and committee meetings and travel between the three sites. Members are appointed for a two-year term. Successful candidates will be eligible to sit on the board for a maximum of five terms, or 10 years. "Our board members represent a wide spectrum of professional and personal skills and interest and are able to bring the communities' perspective to the board," said Paton. Anyone interested in applying must demonstrate previous not-for-profit or corporate experience at a board director level. Board experience with a health provider organization is ideal. The board's nomination committee will accept applications until noon, Wednesday, February 8. A detailed board member recruitment profile has been posted on the HHS website, www.haltonhealthcare.com. More information is available by calling the HHS administration office at 905-815-5114.
