When 16 year-old Martha Zavitz signed up for a 10-day school trip to France and Italy, she wondered how to come up with a means of raising funds to pay for the trip. The Christ the King student had been an avid singer for the past years, singing with both Halton Hills Children's Chorus and Georgetown Children's Chorus, and more recently has had parts in Anything Goes, big: The Musical and Oklahoma! with Georgetown Globe Productions, as well as performing the part of the narrator in the 2004 production of Joseph's Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, at Christ the King School. During that time, she has also taken private singing lessons to improve her vocal skills. So she decided it was natural for her to take advantage of her singing, and use it to raise money for her trip. "I decided to perform a concert at John Elliott Theatre, and approached our family friend, Michael Kelly, who is a professional singer," said Zavitz, "He's released three CDs so far and is working on his fourth." Kelly is considered a contemporary folk artist, said Zavitz, singing his own ballads in a rich voice. He will bring along a three-piece band to perform with him. Zavitz will also join him with some contemporary songs. The concert, which will be held Feb. 4, is selling fairly well, and tickets are $20 each.
