The Acton Seniors Centre board and I attended a meeting with Joy Thompson, the Town's manager of recreation services. It was a very informative meeting, talking about the direction facilities for the over 55s should be heading in the future-- how needs, expectations and requirements will change. We should be preparing for the baby boomers when we have more leisure time. One interesting fact she brought up was that in 2005 there were 1,486 people, aged 55 and older living in Acton. Our membership is 307 at the present time, so that brings up the question, where are the other 1,117 people? Are we not providing the kind of services that the present over 55s are looking for? What would they like to see provided at the Acton Seniors Recreation Centre? We are always open to ideas and would love some input from them.

One interesting thing that did come up is that hopefully in the near future the Acton Pool and Community Centre will be open during the day for people to enjoy if there is enough interest. I know I enjoyed using the pool in Milton during their leisure swims for seniors, (and recognized many Acton people there too), enjoying the exercise and companionship-- things we all

need as we get older. Health is very important as we age. Watch for the survey in the Halton Hills Spring and Summer Brochure being delivered to your home starting February 24. Make sure you fill the survey out and send it in so they know which direction you would like them to go.
