The Georgetown Rebels will be looking to secure their seventh consecutive Golden Horseshoe Athletic Conference overall team title in the swimming pool at the University of Guelph this Thursday. Twenty-one teams from the Halton and Hamilton areas are entered in the meet and two Georgetown high schools figure to be atop the standings when the water calms. Last year, the Rebels swept all eight divisions by accumulating points in several events, but coach Jon Newcombe expects to be challenged this time around by Guelph Street rivals Christ the King Jaguars. "This is really a rebuilding year for us and we're a fair bit weaker than the past couple of years," said Newcombe of his team. "Christ the King should really be our big competition and it's nice to have a new healthy local rivalry."

The Rebels have won the OFSAA boys' title three years running and Newcombe said that there's likely more medals in store when the provincial championships are held in Etobicoke March 7-8. Georgetown's Alex McDonald won the senior boys' 50m and 100m freestyle races at the Winterfest meet last Thursday at M.M. Robinson in Burlington, a tune-up meet for the GHAC championships. Seniors Ricky Davids and Jessica Stuart, along with juniors Rebbeka Bond and Ben Kirkland, have posted several victories in events held this season. Following are the top-three team and individual results turned in by Georgetown Rebels' swimmers at the Oakville Trafalgar meet from last Thursday: Senior Girls 200m medley relay 1.Georgetown (Melissa Ott, Jessica Stuart, Chandra Massey, Emma Schreiber) 2:22.98.
