The following new board members were appointed to vacant positions: vice-president Margaret Anderson, social committee chair, Victor Bissonnette, property committee chair, Bryan Balder, fundraising committee chair, Louise Marjerrison, membership committee chair, Margaret Dodgson. Dave Dodgson was elected president for another term at the annual general meeting. Other board members are past president Donna Rowley, secretary Eileen Dix, treasurer Faye Pink, program committee chair Marj Allan, travel committee chair Mary Walsma, transportation/reception committee chair Alice Clarke, security committee chair, Mike Milligan and public relations chair, Julie Conroy. We welcome all board members and I am sure they will enjoy their added responsibilities and their input will add much to the enjoyment of the other members of the centre. The Spring Fling on March 18 was a great success. Over 100 people enjoyed the tea and the books, puzzles, games and crafts. The bake tables were loaded with goodies but by 11:30 a.m. there wasn't much left. We would like to thank everyone who helped at the bazaar, made something or came to purchase. It is always great to meet the people who regularly support us in the town and nice to see some of Georgetown's seniors. Tammy Summerville won the 50/50 draw. In April,Casino Rama will be back to the usual Wednesday, April 26. There is a trip planned to Casino Windsor on April 26 and 27, so there should be lots of time to gamble and take in the sights. Talk to the front desk on Monday or Friday mornings if you are looking for a little break or change of scenery. Our intrepid hiking leader Heinz Rusche and Maureen Smith will be at the Acton Seniors Centre on April 5 at 7:30 p.m. to talk about the Bruce Trail. I am sure many of you have walked parts of the Trail as it runs quite close to Acton, but they will tell you a little about the history and the club. The Bruce Trail Association is always looking for new members. If you enjoy hiking, it's a great club to belong to. They run organized hikes from Georgetown on a regular basis. I understand there might even be slides and if not, certainly some lovely photos. You don't have to be a member of the centre to come to this event. Help! Have your "hopeful Canadian Idols" moved out? Do you have a full keyboard portable piano/organ with a changeable key register gathering dust in your basement? If you no longer need it, and would like to find a good home for it the Acton Seniors Band could certainly use one. (We would even take the musician too, if they are over 55). They also need a mike that can be used as a speaker. Call 519853-5951 with details. At a recent Thursday afternoon's bid euchre, Ruth Burke had a mooner and at the Wednesday monthly evening euchre, Lydia Dyball had the lone hand, high man went to Claude Couture, high woman Joan Bateman, second man Robert Foster, second lady Bonnie Dunn and the booby to Pat Frizzell. The next evening euchre will be on Wednesday, April 19 at 7:15 p.m. The car rally planned for May 27 has been postponed until a future date. There is a walkathon planned in its place, so hopefully those who were hoping to sit in their cars and enjoy driving around looking for clues, will now put on their walking shoes and enjoy the walk instead. I understand there will be two routes, one fairly flat and one a little more challenging for all those hikers out there. Pledge sheets and more details will be available shortly.
