Now that we are into the month of June, my eldest daughter has started a countdown of how many days she has left of school. While it brings her much joy to enthusiastically mark off her last days of "work", I find myself experiencing an ever-so-slight, ever-so-gentle sense of complete and utter panic. "What am I going to do with the kids for two whole months?" If any of this sounds familiar, fear not! The Halton Hills Public Library has all sorts of books to help you plan a fabulous summer vacation for you and the children in your life. Here are a few examples: Are you considering a visit to an exotic locale this summer? Then try consulting The Everything Family Guide to the Caribbean by Jason Rich. This book rates activities and attractions by their appeal to various age groups, from toddlers to seniors. Are you thinking of Europe? Then titles such as Kids London will help you plan kid-friendly sightseeing. Perhaps you are considering spending time in the great outdoors. Camping and Backpacking with Children by Steven Boga and Cradle to Canoe: Camping and Canoeing with Children by Rolf and Debra Kraiker are both excellent guides to planning a camping or canoeing trip that will appeal to the whole family. If you are thinking of staying closer to home, books like Toronto Fun Places and The Family-Tested Guide to Summer Fun, both by Nathalie Prezeau, can help you plan a summer of day trips. These books provide descriptions, photographs, and practical tips for enjoying hundreds of local beaches, parks, museums, festivals, parades and many other attractions and events in and around the Toronto area. Plus the children don't even have to be yours. Have Grandchildren Will Travel by Virginia Spurlock is packed full of useful advice for grandparents considering time away with the grandkids. Don't forget: One of the best places for finding things to do this summer is your local public library. There are all sorts of programs and presentations going on, far too many to mention here. There are also Travel Kits and Boredom Buster bags to borrow, not to mention thousands of books, CDs, CD-ROMS, DVDs and videos.
