In just her first year of competitive track and field, Georgetown's Kassidy Veenstra has made an impressive mark in the provincial record books in the atom girls' javelin category. Veenstra, 11, recorded a throw measuring 23.9 metres at a meet in Guelph recently, shattering the previous best distance record of 16.5m for that age group. The Grade 6 Centennial Middle School student then bettered her former OTFA record set in Guelph, launching the javelin 24.41m at a competition at York University. A member of the Bramalea Bullets' club team, Veenstra also achieved gold standards for the discus, shot put, 80m hurdles and 100m dash. She is pictured here with the gold medal she earned in the shot put and bronze for the 200m hurdles at the recent Markham Invitational Submitted photo meet.
