School's environmental efforts recognized

Halton Board of Education Trustee Ethel Gardiner (left photo) presented an EcoSchool Silver Award to Robert Little Public School, accepted by students Kayla Mitchell (left) and Jordan Lenz. Robert Little is only the second school to receive silver certification in Halton, recognizing the school's environmental efforts over several years in recycling, waste reduction, composting, energy conservation and school ground greening. Meanwhile (right photo) project donors and volunteers were invited to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony for the grand opening of Robert Little School's Celebrate You and Me Community Garden Project. The garden was designed to be used as a teaching tool as well as enhancing the grounds arounds the school. On hand for the ceremony were, front, from left, Robert Little School principal Leona Skanes, Halton Board of Education trustee Ethel Gardiner, Robert Little School Council Vice-Chair & RLNP Coordinator Julie Vail, and Halton Hills Wards 1/2 Regional Councillor Clark Somerville. Second row, Marg Megelink, Phyllis Lee, Leslie Adams, all of P.O.W.E.R., Maureen Hynds, Mary Walsma of the Acton Agricultural Society and retiring Robert Little School librarian Paul Hynds. In back, John Creasey, Acton Horticultural Society; Ian Barett, P.O.W.E.R. and Ken Zimmerman of Dufferin Aggregates.
