There is something for everyone at the McKenzie-Smith Bennett community barbecue and silent auction on tomorrow (Thursday) at the school. The McKenzie-Smith Bennett (MSB) Parent Council would like to welcome friends and family of MSB and the community to a special fundraising night from 5-7 p.m. This event will be one of biggest fundraising events at the school to help raise the funds for new playground equipment. The council is aiming to raise $25,000 for the first phase of the playground and has raised $8,000 just over the summer months. The old wooden play set was torn down last school year due to safety concerns. The playground serviced not only students of the school but children from the surrounding area and during the soccer season. The school has over 600 children from Kindergarten to Grade 8. A barbecue, Police for a Day, V3 Razr video cell phones, Fury Hockey stick, trail rides, leather coat, swim passes, autographed items from the band Rush, gift baskets, limited edition artwork, and Lunch with the Mayor are just some of the great items donated by local businesses such as Tim Hortons, the olde Hide House, Wildwood Manor and Blue Springs Spa and Salon and many more. Children will also be able to take turns sitting in a real police car and then persuade their parents into bidding on the Police for a Day experience for them and three friends. Parents can shop early for Christmas presents by ordering a personalized glow in the dark pillow case, professionally airbrush painted with their favourite themes or learn about other local businesses who are raising funds for the cause. And don't forget to come hungry. Drop by our family barbecue for a hamburger or hot dog during the festivities for a nominal fee with the proceeds going to the playground. If you can't make it out to the event but want to support the children, drop by the Prosperity One branch in Acton and make a donation or to the MSB school office. Tax receipts will be issued. Local businesses interested in donating items for the auction or wishing to help in other ways can contact the school office or e-mail the council at msbplayground@haltonhills.ca.
