Letters to the editor...Diversity March was irrelevant

Dear editor, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Teri Doell, Delta Hillyard and all her friends in the POSSE club, in "reclaiming" downtown Georgetown from the heathen KKK members. WOW! Thanks so much. I'm already sleeping more fitfully. Just wondering, were you girls even potty-trained the last time the KKK showed their faces here in town? According to records, there were a few KKK members handing out brochures and they were subsequently asked to leave by the same members of this community that you are claiming to speak for. I'm confused ladies. Please explain how this makes "Georgetown and a lot of Halton, known for racism"? I'm baffled! May I also offer some advice? If want to see "flags of various communities" I'll attend Caribana, and, if I want to see two men holding hands and waving the "Pride flag" I will attend next year's Gay Pride Parade. I think that's fair. Granted, in a democratic society it's your right to march, however, I also think it's fair that you don't attempt to ram your ideology down our throats by organizing a group of placard-waving folks to march through our historic downtown. People live in Georgetown, and pay a premium for their property, for a reason. One of those reasons is the tranquility and non "in-your-face" lifestyle they might encounter living in the big cities to the east and south of us. The "Diversity March" has as much relevance in Georgetown as a St. Paddy's Day parade in Chinatown. Surely I'm not the only resident who feels this way. Matt Penny, Georgetown
