Dear editor, I was saddened to hear of Ethel Gardiner's decision not to run for reelection as HDSB trustee. She has been everything mentioned in your editorial, plus some! Even though busy on big issues, she always found time to attend individual school council meetings, graduations or meet with individuals. Ten years ago we faced the potential closure of our small schools here in the north. Ethel worked tirelessly with private citizens' groups to keep them open. She was a crucial advocate for Special Education programs and worked to make schools safer for anaphylactics and asthmatics. Whether at a school or in a grocery store, she always found time to solve problems. Thank you Ethel, you leave big shoes to fill and will be sorely missed. Helen Marschall, Georgetown
