MUNICIPAL ELECTION
Ward 4 (elect two)
Kevin Duggan
Age: 39 Occupation: Director, global logistics firm, business owner Political experience: None. Message to voters: I choose to run for office because I believe the residents of Ward 4 need a representative who will fight to ensure their voice is heard on council. No issue that affects this ward will be overlooked. That is my promise. That is my commitment. My political philosophy defers to ensuring government's most important role of protecting our families and our town, while allowing business and commerce to serve the needs of our community. That is why my campaign is completely funded by myself and my family. I would be honoured to represent Ward 4 in this election. It would be my privilege to fight for your concerns on council. If elected on November 13, my slogan "Let's get to Work!" will be my mandate. Count on it.
John Duncan
Age: 60 Occupation: Reitred business executive Political experience: None. Message to voters: I have lived and owned my own business in Georgetown for over 20 years. I retired in 2005 but my wife, Mary, continues to operate the company. I'm a strong believer in community involvement having served for many years with the following organizations; · United Way · Chamber of Commerce · Hockey Heritage Council · Bill Smith Golf Tournament for Cancer · Kinsmen Club Community involvement is a passion for me. I care deeply about Georgetown and I want to continue to serve my community. My community service record shows that I have a proven track record as both a hard worker and as a leader. My platform is: · Controlled growth · Support for small and new business · Development of the 401 industrial corridor · Additional sports and recreational facilities.
Bob Inglis
Age: 52 Occupation: Technical advisor for a local company. Political experience: Nine years (1997-2006) Ward 4 councillor. Message to voters: It has been a privilege to represent Ward Four ratepayers during the past three terms. Like you, I want to preserve our small town character, while keeping pace with the diverse needs of our community. I have been instrumental in developing planned recreational infrastructure and look forward to its' build-out, as well as service infrastructure, including a new firehall and library expansion. I anticipate continued involvement in these vital projects. As councillor, I have worked to ensure that pavement improvements for certain Ward Four roads are now planned for 2007. The ongoing interests of residents will be important throughout the project. I will use my nine years of council experience, to bring concerns and issues of Ward Four to council, following through with appropriate staff.
Drew Riedstra
Age: 42 Occupation: Small business owner. Political experience: None. Message to voters: Sharing your family views, volunteering with you in town youth sports organizations, understanding our political and town processes, and having a business background, I am fully prepared to work with you as your representative to town council. As we continue to see growth I will work diligently to provide much needed services and facilities such as a new double pad ice rink, completion of Trafalgar Sports Park, increased services and facilities for seniors, and continued full access for those with disabilities. Continuing with our neighbourly town style while our province mandates regional growth will require vigilant planning and identification of our town areas, of which I look forward to applying our input for our town. Halton Hills is a great place to live and raise a family, and working together we will keep it that way!

Brian Burton
Age: Occupation: Professional engineer, owner of a mid-sized manufacturing company Political experience: None. Message to voters: 1) Preserve our environment · No more new quarries and limit quarry expansion · Accommodate growth without any reduction in forest cover or wetlands. · Increase densities along regional roads, leading to less sprawl without impacting existing neighbourhoods. 2) Reduce planned 7% annual tax increase · Stop the $127 million construction of the Taj MaHalton regional office. · Ensure development charges cover all growth costs. · Lengthen out the planned growth period, if necessary, to redesign for cost overruns 3) Improve GO Transit · Build multi-storey car parks to relieve parking congestion and increase off-hour GO transit use.
Gary Carr
Age: 51 Occupation: Businessman and former professional hockey player. Political experience: Member of Provincial Parliament, Speaker of the Ontario Legislature and Member of Parliament for Halton Message to voters: I served as the Member of Provincial parliament for Oakville for 13 years including a portion of Burlington. I was elected three consecutive times. During that period I spent four years as the Speaker of the Ontario Legislature. I won the election of Speaker by gaining the respect and confidence of MPPs from all political parties. In addition, I served as the Member of Parliament for Halton. I am committed to working to improve the standard of living and the quality of life for the people of Halton. Together we will build a safer, healthier more prosperous Halton that provides the maximum opportunity for all of its residents. I will work to make Halton a good place to live, work, raise a family and retire.
Brent Marshall
Age: 56 Occupation: Retired Chief Administration Officer and former Commissioner of Planning and Public Works for Halton Region. Political experience: None Message to voters: Halton Region needs a strong regional chairman. I am confident that I understand the issues. I have a proven track record. I will work to maintain Halton's Triple-A credit rating and also work to maintain tax increases at or below the rate of inflation for Regional services. My reputation as an innovative leader that delivers results has opened many doors and forged strong alliances with both political leaders from all parties and staff at all levels. I have their respect and confidence that I can effectively lead Halton and protect our natural areas, agricultural industry and distinct communities. I will use my knowledge and relationships to protect Halton's enviable quality of life and build on the success of Halton. Vote for Real Regional experience.
Robert Plaschka
Age: 40 Occupation: Electrical engineer, self-employed Political experience: None. Message to voters: Halton Region must begin taking proactive steps to reduce our reliance on our non-renewable energy sources by: 1) designing and constructing buildings that are more energy efficient 2) designing new community development around mass transit, taking steps to ensure that transit ridership grows 3) looking for alternative energy opportunities and capitalizing on them. 4) nurturing a culture of energy efficiency and conservationism by encouraging residents to choose alternative transportation systems and to renovate their homes. Halton regional government must be more visible and accessible--to all residents of Halton. Halton regional government must setup a citizen's advisory committee to review services curently being administered to children and youth with developmental issues and disorders.
