We have our new co-ordinator at last. I sat down with her for a few words. Please give a warm welcome to Kristen Bradley. Kristen comes from Oakville where she lives with her husband and 16-month-old daughter. She has always wanted to work in a community program such as a seniors' center. Kristen's work experience to date has been in long-term care. She enjoys a challenge and adventure and I am certain she will find both at the Georgetown Seniors Centre. She is open to suggestions and ideas for programs from our members. Introduce yourself to Kristen. I am sure you will find her, as I did, warm and outgoing. Welcome to the Georgetown Seniors Centre, Kristen. On Nov. 29th, Mingle and Chat had as their guest speaker, Ina Radziunas from Women's College Hospital to speak on the topic of osteoporosis. About 40 people came to learn more about this disease that affects one out of four men and one out of eight women. She emphasized that it is silent condition but preventable through exercise and diet. Good news! The Christmas dinner is sold out. Sorry if you waited too long to make up your mind. The Centre is now all decked out for Christmas. The Tree Trimming on Dec. 5th put on the finishing touches. Everyone seemed to have a good time, decorating, being entertained with memories by the clients of Sunset Lodge of Christmases past. The audience were invited to share some of their Christmas memories and, of course, our band was there to play the old favourites as we sang along. Christmas closures at the Centre will be December 25th and 26th and it will be closed Jan. 1st for New Year's. It will be open for drop-in activities from Dec. 27- 29. Membership renewals for 2007 are now due. The cost is $25 per calendar year. What are some of the benefits of membership? Well, you can participate in all drop-in activities, participate in day trips, attend special events, vote at the AGM, receive a newsletter five times a year, discover a new hobby/ skill/ talent, become involved in meaningful volunteer work, and have Fun! Fun! Fun! Come out to the Georgetown Seniors Centre! Get involved! Make new friends! Share in the golden years! Merry Christmas to all my readers.
