A Ballinafad woman suffered burn injuries and smoke inhalation in a fire in her home recently. Halton Hills firefighters had to smash a patio door to get into the smoke-filled house when they responded to a residential alarm on Shorthill Road Friday, Dec. 15. Firefighters responded at approximately 4 p.m. and found smoke coming from the residence. The fire in the living room, where the woman was found, had been extinguished when firefighters arrived. Halton Region Paramedics transported the woman to the hospital and fire crews ventilated the house. On Thursday a spokesperson for the fire department said the woman was in stable condition at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal of Ontario. The spokesperson said preliminary investigation points to careless disposal of smoking materials as the cause of the fire.
