The next couple of months promise to be a busy time for the North Halton Midget BB Twisters and they can now add a trip to Toronto's Hockey Hall of Fame to their agenda. Winning all six of their games this past weekend in Sarnia, the Twisters earned the first-ever International Silver Stick championship in the 10year history of the North Halton Girls' Hockey Association, beating Cobourg 1-0 in Sunday's final. Amanda Olar recorded the shutout for the champs, highlighted by a tremendous lastminute save, and Samantha Loeprich's goal was all the offence they'd need. It was the fifth tournament victory of the season for head coach Paul Morrow's side and their banner collection could get even larger, with league and provincial playdowns getting under way this weekend. "In each game, it seemed like someone else stepped forward and contributed something. It was a true all-around team effort," said Morrow. "The girls stuck to the game plan and when you only give up three goals in the entire tournament, it says a lot about the team's commitment to defence and hard work."
The Midget Twisters, who sport an overall record of 46-4-2 so far in 2006-07, will now be listed in the Hockey Hall of Fame's Silver Stick exhibit for the next year. They also recently clinched the South West Girls' Hockey League regular-season trophy and posted tournament wins in Clarington, North Halton, Pembroke and Orillia. Preliminary round-- North Halton 4, Hamilton Hawks 1: Robyn McColl (3G & MVP); Kylie MacGillivray (G, 2A); Lana Munn (2A); Abby Lyons, Katie Morrow (A). North Halton 3, Chatham 0: Siera Pellizzari, Lyons, Kylie McFadyen (G); Lauren McCracken, Samantha Loeprich, MacGillivray, Niki Somerville, Brooke Hartwick, Morrow (A); Amanda Olar (SO); McCracken (MVP). North Halton 2, Clearview IceCats 1: Morrow, Michelle Serafini (G, A); Kristie Cunningham (2A); Morrow (MVP). Quarter-final-- North Halton 3, Flamborough 0: Cunningham, Kelly Colarossi, Morrow (G); McCracken, Loeprich, Hartwick, Pellizzari (A); Olar (SO); Hartwick (MVP). Semifinals-- North Halton 3, Woodstock 1: Lyons (2G); Loeprich (G); Cunningham, McCracken, Pellizzari (A); Trish Dalli (MVP). Championship-- North Halton 1, Cobourg 0: Loeprich (G, MVP); Olar (SO).
