Christ the King goaltender Ben Merchant puts a halt to a scramble around his net in the first game of the Jaguars' opening-round Halton boys' high school playoff game against visiting Iroquois Ridge on Thursday at the Alcott Arena. Christ the King took a 1-0 lead into the third period but ended up dropping a 2-1 decision. The Jags needed to win Tuesday's game two at home against Iroquois Ridge in order to force an overtime period that will determine which team moves on to the semi-finals on Thursday.
Christ the King's Jaguars are the top seed in the Halton Tier I girls' playdowns with a 5-0-4 mark and will host Holy Trinity today (Wednesday) at the Alcott Arena at 2:30 p.m. Also on Wednesday, sixth-place Georgetown travels to Burlington to take on Assumption in another quarter-final. The semi-finals are slated for Friday and the Halton championship game set for next Tuesday.
