Can you believe the weather of the last couple of weeks? Cold! Colder! Coldest! And, Oh, the everpresent wind. Do you think March will go out like a lamb? At least that is something to look forward to. I often heard it said that the corner of Portage and Main in Winnipeg was the windiest spot in Canada. I'm beginning to think that Georgetown may surpass that. Lorraine Hillier and her crew served up a delicious lunch of meat pies, mashed potatoes, peas and gravy, on Tuesday, March 6. Following dessert the Drama Club presented a skit about the change of matrons at Sunset Lodge. The wood carvers group is looking for more people to join them. Why not come out on a Monday morning at 9 a.m. to find out what they are all about. If there are any members from the Acton Seniors interested, you are quite welcome to come along also. Carpet bowling has picked up some new bowlers who tell me that really enjoy it. The fun is open to anyone. Don't miss out. There are some senior event competitions coming up quickly. On Mach 29th there is a run-off for cribbage at the Georgetown Seniors Centre beginning at 1 p.m. On April 18th Bid Euchre and Euchre play, for winners to go on, take place at our Seniors Centre at 1 p.m. Five Pin Bowling Finals will be held at Oakdale Mall in Oakville on Thursday, May 17 at 1 p.m. The cost to enter as a competitor is $9. Registration forms may be picked up at front reception. Need any more information or clarification please call Lorne Hammond at 905-877-8109. In my next column I will include other events in the Seniors Summer Games program and location of finals or you may log onto www.seniorgameshalton.org. There is some difficulty arising with the Diners' Club. Once you have indicated you wish to attend the function the onus is on you to phone at least 24 hours ahead if you are unable to attend. We are aware that an emergency may occur the same day. Some places will require us to pay for meals ordered. Please, let's be considerate. Today I met a new member at the Centre. This lady had taken a very brave step in leaving the safety of her apartment to come to our centre to make new friends. She has made the first step. Let's hope that we can be the friends she wants. To all Seniors: Come on out to the Georgetown Seniors Centre! Get involved! Make new friends! Share in the good times!
