Forum to discuss region's waste plan

Next Tuesday

Local environmental group Protect Our Water and Environmental Resources (P.O.W.E.R.) and Oakvillegreen Conservation Association will be holding a free public forum Tuesday, March 27 to discuss Halton Region's proposal to build an energy from waste (EFW) facility at the Region landfill site on Regional Road 25 in Milton. Dr. Paul Connett, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry from St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y., who specializes in environmental chemistry and toxicology will be the guest speaker. Connett will be joined by Rod Muir, a waste diversion campaigner from the Sierra Club of Canada and John Jackson director of the Recycling Council of Ontario. The forum will be held at the Galaxy 707, 475 North Service Road East in Oakville. Doors open at 7 p.m. Refreshments will be available. Connett and Muir's presentation will be followed by a panel discussion that will include Brian Burton, a cost analyst. The panel will answer questions from the audience and discuss waste disposal options.
