Flyers shade Sharks in house league final

Sarah Fillier of the JV Clothing Red Wings scored on this breakaway goal to give her team an early lead in the Gold Medal game for the Senior Tyke division at the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association's Weekend of Champions last weekend at the Alcott Arena. Real Canadian Superstore Stars' goalie Adam Ritchie and his teammates would rally back, however, to earn the championship and medals with a 6-4 triumph.
In the Bantam final of the GMHA's Weekend of Champions this past Saturday at Alcott Arena, Lora Greene State Farm Insurance goalie Jeremy Witten was kept active by a strong Total Service Landscape squad, which posted a 7-1 victory to scoop up the gold medals. League MVP Jordan Milne (right) fired in a hat trick to lead the TSL offensive onslaught.
Stefan Moneypenny scored twice and helped set up Justin Parker's winning goal with just over three minutes remaining in regulation time to give the Flyers a 4-3 victory over the Sharks in the gold medal game of the Tim Hortons Junior Tyke division final as part of the Georgetown Minor Hockey Association's annual Weekend of Champions at the Alcott Arena for its house league teams. Tanner Fisken added a goal and an assist for the champs, with Sean Martincourt picking up three helpers. Nolan Hodgson, Brendan Kennedy and Brett Hodgson replied for the Sharks and Ryan Primdahl contributed two assists.
Senior Tyke
The JV Clothing Red Wings jumped to a 2-1 lead on goals by league MVP Sarah Fillier and Braden O'Connell, backed up by solid goaltending from Adriano Mamone. The Real Canadian Superstore Stars stormed back with three goals by Max von Gemmingen and some great saves by goalie Adam Ritchie to take a 6-2 advantage. Late goals by O'Connell and Jessica Mellace made the game close, but the Stars held on to win the Senior Tyke championship. Also scoring for the Stars were Alexander Quinn with two goals and Alexander Irwin.
Novice White
James Salvian's goal with eight seconds left in the second period stood up as the winner for the Stars as they edged the McKab Taxi Bruins 1-0 in the gold final on Saturday. Darren Pydych recorded the shutout.
Novice Blue
Cameron O'Rourke notched a pair of goals and Zach Moulton had the shutout for the GMHA Sharks as they downed the Joy Nolan Royal LePage Red Wings 30. Jordan Eros added a goal and an assist while Nick Samis set up two of the scores.
Atom White
The Georgetown Firefighters' Red Wings received second-period goals from Benjamin Murray, Scott Belshaw and Joshua Bugden and held on to defeat the Kretschmar Inc. Flyers 3-2 Friday night for overall bragging rights in the division. Scoring for the Flyers were Jason Young and Austin Lynas.
Atom Blue
Adam Lukinski blocked all shots directed his way and Chris Georgie tallied twice for the Bryan Lewis Consulting Canadiens as they blanked the Overhead Door Company Flyers 4-0 in the goldmedal contest. Parker Mellot and Travis Greene rounded out the goal scoring.
Peewee White
Kurtis Oliveira potted the clinching goal and helped secure gold medals for the Carpet Barn Carpet One Flyers in a 2-1 decision against Jones & Son Canadiens on Sunday evening. Liam Vesterback also scored for the Flyers, while Matthew Troy responded for the Canadiens.
Peewee Blue
Kendrick Kerr's second goal of the night with only 18 seconds left in the third period gave the New Solutions Capital Group Sharks a 3-2 win over the Eramosa Physiotherapy Red Wings in the grand championship contest on Friday. Eric Lockwood had the other Shark goal, with Cody Crossman netting both Red Wing markers.
Bantam
Despite a hard-working, wellbalanced team effort by Lora Greene State Farm Insurance, Total Service Landscape dominated the gold-medal matchup 7-1 on the strength of a three goal-game by league MVP Jordan Milne and the steady netminding of league goals against average leader (1.74) Eric Emidio.
Midget/Juvenile
A pair of goals by Matt Wittmann propelled the Maxan Drywall Flyers to a 5-2 triumph over New Solutions Capital Group to earn gold-medal honours. Cody Graham-Smith, Lee Thompson and Sean Wittmann chipped in singles for the Flyers, with Stephen Shearer and Tyler Laframboise finding net for New Solutions.
