SPRING HAS SPRUNG

Organizers of Earth Week events this past weekend experienced ideal conditions with sunny skies and temperatures high above the norm for the middle of April. Among the many outdoor events held Saturday was a tree planting at the Acton Quarry. Five-year-old Matthew Corrigan took a break with his mom Susan after planting the 25,000th tree at the quarry since 2001. The seedling was planted as part of Dufferin Aggregates celebration of Earth Week. Scouts, their families, and Dufferin Aggregates employees planted 3,000 seedlings including, alternate leaved dogwood, green ash, pin cherry, red oak, white ash, white birch, white cedar and white pine. Acton Quarry recently won an international award from the National Stone Sand & Gravel Association for environmental stewardship. For more Earth Day coverage see page 3.
