Local bands to perform at Foyay's 25th Birthday Bash, Feb. 27 By Eamonn Maher emaher@theifp.ca The second-annual charity concert to celebrate the lives of three young Georgetown natives who died in a fire nearly two years ago is coming up on Saturday, Feb. 27. That date would have been the 25th birthday of one of the victims, Jordan Boyer, and organizers have named the concert Foyay's 25th Birthday Bash, which will feature three locally-based bands and a silent auction. Boyer, Katie Charron, 21 and Alysia Graham, 22, perished on March 7, 2014 as they slept during an early-morning fire in the apartment they shared in Toronto. Last year, the inaugural fundraising event was held at the McGibbon Hotel in Georgetown based in Toronto engaging young people homeless and on the margins, ages 16-29, from across Canada. SKETCH has established a bursary in the victims' names that will be given out yearly. "We didn't want this to be like a memorial when we started it and were hoping it could be something where we could go out for the night and celebrate his birthday in a positive way," said 17-year-old Cameron Boyer, Jordan's brother. "That was our main goal, but we didn't realize we'd make as much money for SKETCH as we did." Last year's inaugural fundraiser drew a capacity crowd of a little more than 100 and was held at The McGibbon Hotel, but with that venue closing, Foyay's 25th Birthday Bash will take place at the Georgetown Legion, 127 Mill St., with doors opening at 9 p.m. Georgetown bands Jack Pine, Silver Creek Folk and Dirty Sol are slated to perform. "Obviously, the root of the cause is an important and personal thing, but the celebration is meant to be enjoyed by as many people as possible," said Jordan's friend Doug Sinclair, a member of Jack Pine whose Shoe Tree Productions is helping put on the event. "Because that's what Jordan would've wanted." Tickets are $25 each and are available (cash only) at Pine Cone Music in the Knolcrest Centre at 360 Guelph St. To donate goods, services or cash for the silent auction, contact cameronmboyer@gmail.com ENTERTAINMENT The second-annual charity concert to celebrate the lives of three young Georgetowners (from left, Alysia Graham, Katie Charron and Jordan Boyer) who died in a Toronto fire nearly two years ago will be held on Saturday, Feb. 27, at Georgetown Legion, 127 Mill St. File photo and raised $4,400-- more than jected-- for SKETCH, a commudouble what organizers had pro- nity-arts-development initiative Placing public safety first, since 2002 Peace of mind Gas services and products you can trust Registered · Certified · Insured · Generac Generators, BBQs, gas appliances Thursday, February 11, 2016 - The IFP - Halton Hills - www.theifp.ca · Water heater sales and financing · Certified gas & electrical installation services · Call for FREE gas system inspection Specialized dentistry for infants, children, teenagers and all patients with special needs New Patients Welcome!
