President Dave Maloney introduced guests Mayor Rick Bonnette who brought good wishes and greetings from council. Councillors Jon Hurst, Mike Albano, and Dave Kentner were also present as well as Warren Harris, Interim Commissioner of Community and Corporate Services. Samantha Kleinschmidt, Manager of Recreation Services, mentioned how the expanded new space was a milestone and how much she enjoyed seeing pictures from the Centre of the various events where we are having fun. Aaron Mathews, Facility Supervisor of the Acton Arena complex, was also present. Councillor Bob Inglis and John Lesko, President of the Georgetown Centre, sent their regrets. Following the acceptance of the minutes of March 31, 2015, Dave talked about the need to increase the annual membership fee in 2017 to $35. He told members present that we pay 25 per cent of the Town's operating budget for the Centre, which works out to $94.25 based on last year's membership of 349 members and the Town covers the other 75 per cent. We cover our 25 per cent by the membership fees and fundraising activities. Wendy Krever followed with a short presentation on the upcoming Accreditation. It's hard to believe it has been three years since the last one! Treasurer Maureen Harvey presented the 2015 budget and asked for acceptance of the report. The meeting was adjourned and refreshments followed the meeting. If you were unable to attend the AGM you can pick up a copy of the report at the front desk Twelve people attended the cooking class on Tuesday, April 4 and learned how to cut one chicken into nine different portions. Chief Dale McCarthy, the owner of the Everton Culinary School, then proceeded to make Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Souvlaki and Masala plus Spanish rice. Everyone enjoyed learning how to make the dishes and a little about the various spices used. Did you know that saffron is so expensive because it is the stamens of the crocus flower and they pick the stamens by hand with tweezers. We all enjoyed eating the dishes.
