All in all, there were 51 mayors representing 10 coun- tries, five continents and 61 million people. The mayors of Van- couver, Montreal and I represented Canada. You may ask yourself why Halton Hills? You may not be aware of this, but we are leaders in Sustainability and have been widely recognized for our practices. The mayors and the audience were thrilled to hear an inspiration- al speech from former U.S. President Barack Obama. I also spent some time with Mayor Anne Hidal- go from Paris, France. She left me with a com- ment that I will never forget, "We need to treat climate change with ur- gency now, as there is no planet B." I gave a speech and sat on a panel discus- sion with the Mayor of Honolulu and Mayor of Knoxville. Halton Hills is definitely on the world map. **** Winter has officially arrived. Forecasters are saying that it will be a harsher winter than last year. Our staff will do their very best to en- sure that the roads are maintained for our safe- ty. Please be patient, as we have over 950 km of roads, 125 km of side- walks and 25 municipal parking lots to maintain. The sequence of priority for roads is as follows: Regional (i.e. Hwy. 25, Trafalgar Rd.), arterial (i.e. Guelph St., Queen St. etc.) and collector roads (i.e. Delrex Blvd., Churchill Rd. etc.) fol- lowed by local streets. **** Do you remember four years ago at this time? Many of us did not have power; our streets looked like a warzone with fallen trees, branch- es and hydro lines. Let's hope that this year we don't have another ice storm. Being pre- pared for an emergency is essential. A family emergency survival kit is simple and should be prepared ahead of time. Make sure your family knows where the sur- vival kit is kept. Stock these six basics in your home: water, food, first aid supplies, tools and supplies such as, cloth- ing, bedding and special items. Have your cell phone charged and cash on hand. Please visit our web- site for more information on how you can prepare. www.haltonhills.ca/fire/pdf/ emergPrepareGuide2007 .pdf **** My annual State of the Town address to the business community hosted by the Chamber of Commerce can be found on our website: haltonhills.ca/mayor/pdf/ Mayor%20State%20 of%20the%20Town%20 Address%202017.pdf **** F o r a l l o f t h o s e hockey fans, there is a special game on Sun- day, January 14. C.A.S.h.h. does wonderful work for the residents and families in our community who are battling cancer. **** I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas, and I wish you all the best for the New Year! **** Keeping it real!
