A southbound car travelling on Fifth Nassagaweya Line was struck in the inter- section by a westbound pickup truck on No. 25 Sideroad. There are stop signs at this intersection for traffic on Fifth Nas- sagaweya Line. A 52-year-old man from Rockwood, who had been driving the southbound car was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pickup truck was not injured. A hydro pole was significantly dam- aged as a result of the collision, and No. 25 Sideroad was closed at this intersection for repair to the hydro pole. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905-825-4747 ext. 5065. The Town Sustain- ability Implementation Committee (TSIC) an- n o u n c e d i t s l a t e s t initiative: a welcome package for new resi- dents of Halton Hills. The welcome pack- age will support new residents in getting set- tled and integrated into the community. A letter of greeting is included in the package along with a memory key to link directly to the Town's welcome web- page , f i l l ed w i th u se fu l information about living in Halton Hills. The key also has extra mem- ory capacity for personal storage. Mayor Rick Bonnette, Chairperson of the TSIC, noted that, "We want to make the transition to Halton Hills easy for people and understand- ing the many amenities available locally is a big part of that. From beauti- ful parks, to cultural opportunities, to know- ing where to shop, or even where to access medical support--these are all important facets to making the move to a new community a happy and memorable experi- ence." TSIC members lead projects that imple- ment the Community Sustainability Strategy that provides direction on decisions that move the community to a higher quality of life. The Town views sus- tainability through four pillars: cultural vibrancy, economic prosperity, en- vironmental health and social wellbeing. The welcome package is the fourth initiative completed by this term of the TSIC. Other pro- jects include: • A Block Party Kit to encourage residents to get to know their neighbours; • An investigative re- port on the variety of successful community hubs and; • A report on commun- ity street trees that will contribute to the Climate Change Adap- tation Plan currently being undertaken by the Town. The welcome pack- age relates to the social wellbeing pillar of sus- tainability and supports the long-term community vision which reads: "In 2060, the urban and rural communities o f H a l t o n Hills balance economic prosperity with a deep com- mitment to the natural environment, while retain- i n g v i a b l e l oca l ag r i - culture and small-town feel, and being socially equit- able, culturally vibrant and strongly connected." On December 29 at ap- proximately 11:45 a.m., Halton Police responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence in Halton Hills. Officers received initial information that a male had been stabbed at the location. On arrival, officers located a male outside the home with a number of serious injuries, including stab wounds. A second male was located inside the home with a serious stab wound. A dog was also found inside the residence deceased. Both males were initially trans- ported by ambulance to Hospital with life threat- ening injuries. T h e O n e D i s t r i c t Criminal Investigations Bureau continued the in- vestigation and arrested the 30-year-old Halton Hills male in connec- tion with the incident. On January 2, he was formal- ly charged with attempt murder, uttering death threats, killing an animal and failing to comply with recognizance. He was re- manded into custody and remains in hospital. The name of the accused and location of the inci- dent are not being released to protect the identity of the victim. The victim and accused are both are ex- pected to survive.
