Because it was a rental heating unit, Rogers was responsible for arranging to have the unresponsive system fixed when it gave out, but the company that was meant to service it was unable to do so de- spite repeated attempts by Rogers and her family to book an appointment. "I thought, it would've been great if I'd been hav- ing family in for dinner. I couldn't have done a din- ner," Rogers said. "I had a stove and everything, but I didn't have heat in the apartment." For the first couple days, Rogers had no heat or hot water. Afterwards, her son, Andrew Rogers, was able to kick-start the furnace and it then became Rogers' job to get it working every day until the service company finally arrived to repair the unit nearly two weeks later. Rogers lives in the Le- gion Terrace, a Seniors' Apartment Building in Acton. Kerr Realty Man- agement Ltd. manages the building. Lorraine Kerr, the owner of Kerr Realty, said, "The tenant is the customer who sup- plies their own hot water tank and I would agree [the service company's] customer service was not satisfactory and it's my recommendation to my tenant that they seek a different hot water tank supplier, and I am going to assist her in doing that." The energy company, Sandpiper Energy Solu- tions, stated that they were unable to comment on individual cases when contacted. Rogers wants to make clear she likes where she lives. "The residents in the building are so thought- ful and careful of each other. It's a lovely place to live, but I didn't like what happened and anybody I spoke to couldn't believe that happened to me. That I had to do it myself. That they didn't look after me." Senior left with no heat
