Curlers from 48 teams and five clubs--Acton, Milton, North Halton, Brampton and Orangeville--partici- pated. Teams were drawn from a hat, and a couple early games in the week slotted players in their division. Elimination started game three. Curlers played Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday to get to the Saturday event. Teams that made it to Sat- urday got two games in one of four divisions: A, B, C or D. From that point, players could go on to win the championship or the consolation. No one team played a team from their own club. Scott Lindsay, the representative from the Ac- ton Curling Club responsible for running the Bonspiel, said, "There's skill and there's com- petitiveness, but the social part is just great. And it doesn't matter what club or what people you speak to, they're just good people. And if you're meeting good people, it's a good way to spend your day." Lindsay got involved with curling 10 years ago after a hockey injury. He took a couple buddies with him to try it out and has been a steady member since. Many additional volunteers helped make the event happen, and organizers were pleased with the result. Laurie Leighton, the current President of the Acton Curling Club said, "I'm really happy that we are hosting the Halton Peel this year. It's our 50th anniversary in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Halton Peel, so it's a great combination. And for people to come in and see our newly renovated club and have so Hockey RepoRt Acton hosts 2018 Halton Peel Bonspiel w ith T he N ew T an ne r Sp or ts much fun and so much curling, it's phenomenal."
